Joy inexpressible. Wouldn’t we all like to experience joy so deep we can’t even put it into words? Peter tells us that joy comes in understanding God’s redemptive pathway to salvation. The world has an undeniable longing for contentment. An unquenchable thirst for satisfaction. But as you have probably discovered—contentment can’t be found in the aisles of a store, or in the fictional husbands we read about who have unnaturally gracious responses to a perimenopausal meltdown and say, “I’ve drawn a bath for you - go relax and I’ll handle dinner and bedtime tonight.” Satisfaction is not going to come from sports-star kids who earn full scholarships to college by the 8th grade, and it won’t come by wrangling our way back into our pre-baby jeans. What we are actually experiencing is a deep hunger for joy, and Jesus is the only true source of it!
This isn't specifically Christmas focused, but is a great refresher in December as we focus on awaiting the coming Savior!
