More than ever before, Christians are talking about the return of Christ. The signs are every- where—and yet—the Bible teaches that we will not know the day or the hour of the Lord’s return. A lack of biblical knowledge regarding the end times can strike elicit fear rather than faith into the hearts of many, and yet, Jesus did not want us to fear the future. He wanted us to get ready for it. For the Christian, the end is just the beginning!
For the next several studies here at Faith That Speaks, we will gently wade into the waters of prophecy. We will start slowly, giving context and background so that you will feel confident as we unpack one of the most exciting books ever written in the Bible: the book of Revelation. The goal is not to scare you—rather, it is to prepare you for what is to come. As a Christian, the “end of days” holds no fear. It should embolden us to share the gospel with a greater sense of ur-gency and purpose, because we know that the Lord’s return is near. Because of this, our hearts should be ablaze with hope! Jesus is coming for His church!
But what does “near” mean?
In short, it could happen any day. This is true today and it has been true since the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. As Christians, we are exhorted to get ready!
I grew up under the Biblical instruction of my grandparents. My grandmother, in particular, loved studying the end times. As a child, I watched her teach on the topic for years. As she grew older, her heart never wavered in her desire to see Jesus come back, it only grew more excited. She used to tell me that while the book of Revelation could prove controversial for some, it held a precious blessing to anyone who would study it and heed its words.
Remember, we have an adversary who seeks to kill, steal, and destroy. (John 10:10) What a prize he would claim if he could use the Bible itself to divide the body of Christ. Sisters, the book of Revelation gives us no cause to be divid- ed. Instead, we have cause to rejoice!
Let’s dig in with expectancy and excitement—and ask the Lord to open the eyes of our hearts, that we might know Him more and await His return with hope, joy, and excitement because of God, who through His Spirit has given us the ability to discern the things which will soon come to pass.
